Barack Obama

The 44th president, but the first non-white.

Sydney Voorhees, Journalist

Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961. He is now 58 years old, and in those 58 years he has accomplished an extreme amount. He grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, but for some time lived in Seattle, Washington. Obama is extremely well known for being the 44th  president of the United States, and the very first black president of those forty-four. This has made Barack Obama extremely inspirational! He has now completely broken the barrier of presidents solely being white, straight males. But he was not just the president, he was a successful president. He is extremely inspirational because of how he has shown other people that you don’t have to be a certain type of person or have a certain look to be in power. He puts the message out there that just because in the past presidents were all white, that doesn’t mean that’s the way it always has to be. He is inspiring once again, because he has shown people that job titles and positions don’t come with a color requirement. We should care about Barack Obama because he has paved the way for future barrier breakers. He is letting others know that if he can become president, a very white dominated title, others can become anything they want. All of this has happened because of Barack Obama’s bravery and perseverance. He truly is one of the best black leaders. Some inspirational quotes from Barack Obama include:

“In the end, this is what this election’s about – do we participate in a politic of cynicism or a politic of hope?” – Barack Obama

“The cynics may be the loudest voices – but I promise you they will accomplish the least.” – Barack Obama
