The Paw Press Game Review

Entry #7, Magic the Gathering

By: Alden McGrath

Magic the Gathering (MTG) is the best card game in existence (Pokémon is bad, in my opinion), and for a good reason. Magic the Gathering has over 20 million fans worldwide and is much more complicated and fun than anything else. The basic idea is that you and an opponent have 20 life and you battle it out with a deck of sixty cards. You have creatures and spells that you can cast using Mana (it is sort of like power) that you can use to deal damage to your opponent. If your health goes to or below zero then you lose, but if you get your opponent down to zero first you win. Now let’s talk about why they are so popular. They have different rarities;the rarities are common, uncommon, rare, and mythic rare. Mythic rares sell for lots of money, but the most expensive card is worth a few thousand dollars.

Magic the Gathering got a 90 on my 100-point test, and I think it is an awesome game, but that is just my opinion. Magic has the original way to play, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only way to play. There are games like commander where you have one creature who is your commander, and they come into play multiple times so you can’t have the same card more than twice in your 100-card-deck. Another type of play is the two-headed-dragon (some people say it’s a giant) where you and a teammate go up against another team. Magic the Gathering won the Games Hall of Fame and was created by wizards of the coast.
