WARNING: THERE WILL BE SPOILERS

In the movie The Hate U Give we learn that you have a voice and you should use it to stand up for what’s right. 16-year, Starr Carter,  lives in Garden Heights. The place that people imagine as your ‘stereotypical black neighborhood’ but it is actually very underrated. Starr ends up witnessing the death of her childhood friend, Khalil Harris. Khalil ends up getting killed by a white police officer that mistakes a hairbrush for a gun. Throughout the movie, Starr faces the fact that she can use her voice to speak up for what actually happens not just on that day, but for all of the people facing similar issues.

In fact, this movie got 6.9/10 IMDB, 97% Rotten Tomatoes, & 82 Metacritic. In my opinion, this movie had a very powerful impact on many people including me. The movie got turned into a movie a few years after it won New York Times #1 bestselling novel that, the author, Angie Thomas wrote. The author once said that she wanted the book to show that ”empathy is stronger than sympathy” which is something that was shown throughout the movie & the book.

All in all, I REALLY recommend the movie & book for you if you like emotional rollercoasters, realistic events, powerful use of language, and so much more. The movie is a MUST see and the book is a MUST read. Thank you for reading! #blacklivesmatter#
